Many clients seeking our nutrition services describe having a tenuous relationship with food. Tired or burned out, many are fed up with the pressures of doing the things they have to do rather than finding clarity and balance with the things they want to do. Some are at a point in their journey where their health and well-being are challenged by a new diagnosis (prediabetes, diabetes, PCOS, PMDD, or high cholesterol) or concerns about aging. Food feels like a chore. There is frustration with not feeling confident in their own skin or low self-esteem.
Our team joins the community conversation around food access, body size inclusivity, and the industrialization of health care. We are concerned about the hyper-focus on numbers and "risk-factors," rather than one's inherent wholeness and well-being. We approach nutrition in a holistic, whole-person way and believe cultural foods are part of "a healthy diet."
With intersectionality in mind, we bring cultural humility, lived experience, and radical compassion to our nutrition care. We'd love to help you explore practical, meaningful ways to nourish and fuel your body. Moving beyond strict meal plans, we partner and meet with clients regularly (weekly) to begin building an individualized plan that honors their strengths. As clients gain confidence, we meet less often to encourage ongoing attunement.
Together with current clinical nutrition teachings, our team integrates wholistic practices rooted in Ancient, Indigenous wisdom and collective health, such as:
Intuition and ancestral connection
Dream work
Nature-based practices
Ritual and divination
Art and storytelling
Choice-based movement
Mind-body, somatic techniques
Many factors contribute to our relationship with food and body-image: from familial and cultural, socio-economic factors, to individual neurobiology, food preferences, and lived experience. Our team at Kala Nutrition cannot wait to meet you and to help equip you with (or renew) a genuine relationship with food that supports wholeness, well-being, and being your brilliant self.

ABOUT KALA NUTRITION
Kala /kā-la/ Nutrition was founded by dietitian Malou Aragon Nichols. We chose the name "Kala" in affinity to pamilya [family] stories working alongside the kalabaw /kā-la-bau/—water buffalo endemic to the Philippines. Kalabaw are dependable farm companions—trusted besties who provide food security, hardworking partnership, and a deep connection to nature. These qualities inspire our approach to nutrition care work.
LAND BACK
We honor the Original Stewards - the Núuchiu, Tsétsėhéstȧhese, Hinono’eiteen, and other Native Peoples - of whose lands we work and live (colonially known as Fort Collins, Colorado.) We are settlers of Austronesian Filipino Visayan and Luzon ancestry; and belong to the Indigenous People of ethnolinguist groups Hiligaynon/ Illongo, Waray Waray, in tracing our lineage back to our recent ancestors. Our diasporic settler ancestors and our presence on stolen land of Turtle Island influence the violence and oppression faced by People of the Global Majority, Two-Spirit, Trans and Indigenous Peoples. We strive to support and follow the leadership of BIPoC Two-Spirit, Elders, Wisdom Keepers, Artists, and Change-makers.
